Johann Michael Hallwachs
Johann Michael Hallwachs (born March 23, 1690 in Tübingen ; † December 27, 1738 ibid) was a German lawyer, Protestant theologian, historian and philosopher and professor at the University of Tübingen.
Life
Johann Michael Hallwachs was matriculated in Tübingen in 1706 to study Protestant theology there. He passed the master's examination in 1710 and then became vicar in Holzheim near Göppingen . 1715–1717 he was a repetiteur in Tübingen and occasionally undertook a study trip. 1717–1721 he was associate professor for philosophy in Tübingen. In 1721 he was appointed full professor of eloquence, poetry and history. From 1733 he was a full professor of morality and history. Later he also became a professor of the Jurisprudentia Universalis . 1728, 1737/38 he was rector of the University of Tübingen. His portrait has been in the Tübingen Professorengalerie since his second term in office . In 1736 he was the university's librarian (i.e. library manager).
