Johann Michael Juncker (* 1640 ; † 1676 in Heilbronn ) was a southwest German painter from the early baroque period.

Life

Juncker was the son of the Count of Langenburg court and clerk Michael Juncker. His apprenticeship began around 1653/54. In 1664/65 he worked as a painter in the Stuttgart Palace and in the Stuttgart Lusthaus . He came to Heilbronn in 1665, where he received citizenship on October 26, 1665 and married Maria Magdalena Calw († 1680), niece of the mayor Sebastian Calw , on January 15, 1666 . The couple lived in limited financial circumstances, so that Juncker made portraits of Heilbronn councilors to earn the wages, none of which has survived. For the Heilbronner Kilianskirche he created the painting The Good Samaritan (1673/76). The painting Vanity of the World , which was owned by Duke Carl Rudolf in 1695 , was also created in Heilbronn . In his workshop he had two apprentices: from 1666 to Hans Konrad Schmüger and from 1672 to Jörg Ferdinand Gaillard . Juncker died in Heilbronn at the age of 36 and was buried on September 15, 1676. Juncker had four daughters, one of whom died early and two others possibly married abroad, so that only the daughter Maria Regina († 1742) is still occupied in Heilbronn, where she was pastor's wife.
