Johann Oberhammer (born April 10, 1879 in Kindberg , Styria , † May 4, 1956 in Vienna ) was an Upper Austrian civil servant, socialist politician and later a Viennese bank director.

Life

Johann Oberhammer was the son of master rope maker Andreas Oberhammer (born October 15, 1822 in Markt Perg (Mühl ...) , Upper Austria; † August 26, 1884) and his wife, the wine and spirits trader Anna Oberhammer (born June 9, 1849, b . Bauer in Maria-Zell ; † December 17, 1927 in Graz ). He was born in Kindberg, trained as a scythe-smith , moved to Upper Austria, where he studied economics on his own. Eventually he completed the social security course in 1910 and 1912 at the commercial academy. In 1912 he attended the party school in Klagenfurt. The socialist idea inspired him and so he was actively involved in building the social democratic movement in Upper Austria. He emerged as the founder of some socialist party sections.

In Vienna he was chairman of the Steier's Association in Vienna, which has been providing social support for Styrians living in Vienna since 1887 and also organizing social events such as the “Steier Kränzchen”. In January 1940 he asked to continue to lead the association as chairman, but this was rejected by the National Socialist German Workers' Party because the political report required at the time was issued on him with the note “consider politically”.
