Johann Peter Cornelius d'Alquen (born September 17, 1800 at Wasserlos Castle near Alzenau , † November 27, 1863 in Mülheim am Rhein ) was a German composer and doctor .

Life

Johann Peter Cornelius d'Alquen was a doctor of medicine and surgery and also practiced this profession. He also completed a musical degree.

In addition to sonatas and symphonies, his song settings are particularly important. A contemporary and close friend, Vincenz von Zuccalmaglio , was one of the most important folk song collectors of his time. Johann Peter Cornelius set several of his text arrangements to music. The well-known folk song “No beautiful country in this time”, the text of which is by Zuccalmaglio, was probably set to music by Johann Peter Cornelius d'Alquen. Many of these songs appeared without naming the composer, some of Zuccalmaglio's songs became so-called folk good , that is, the lyrics and melodies were so catchy that they were and are sung by the people without anyone knowing who they came from.

On November 27, 1863 he died as a general practitioner and medical adviser in Mülheim am Rhein, where he had spent the last forty years of his life. He was the great grandfather of Gunter d'Alquen .
