Little is known about the living conditions of the Bernese publisher Johann Peter Lamy, who is known throughout Europe. In art literature, the period of employment in Bern is usually wrongly equated with the life data. The only thing that is certain is that the flat painter Johann Peter Lamy from Hüningen opened an art publishing house in Bern in 1791. For his own work, Johann Peter Lamy employed and promoted Swiss and German artists such as Franz Niklaus König , Markus Dinkel , Hieronymus Hess , Christian Meichelt , Heinrich Meichelt , Johann Heinrich Schilbach , but also exceptional artists such as Gottfried Mind . The publisher was known and appreciated for its brightly colored Swiss costumes and landscape sequences, which were sometimes combined. After 1800, Johann Peter Lamy ran branches in Basel , Lausanne and Geneva . In 1838 Johann Peter Lamy left Bern. The publishing house was continued under his name until 1839. Lamy's death dates are not known.
