Johann Philipp Achilles Leisler
Johann Philipp Achilles Leisler (born August 1, 1772 in Hanau ; † December 8, 1813 there ) was a German doctor and zoologist .
Leisler completed the natural history of Germany by the natural scientist and ornithologist Johann Matthäus Bechstein (1757-1822) in his own work . With this work he described, among other things, new species of birds, such as the Temminck sandpiper ( Calidris temminckii ) ( Leisler , 1812), which he named after his friend, the ornithologist Coenraad Jacob Temminck (1778-1858). He was also the first to describe the pygmy sandpiper ( Calidris minuta ) ( Leisler , 1812) and the short-toed lark ( Calandrella brachydactyla ) ( Leisler , 1814). The zoologist Heinrich Kuhl (1797–1821) named the little noctule bat ( Nyctalus leisleri ) ( Kuhl , 1817), a bat species , after him in honor of Leisler .
Leisler was one of the founders of the Wetterau Society for All Natural History in Hanau 1808 eV His daughter was the writer Luise von Plönnies .
