Johann Rudolf Merian (knight master)

Johann Rudolf Merian (born April 18, 1674 in Basel ; †   May 21, 1721 there ) was a Swiss Rittmeister .

Life

Johann Rudolf Merian was the son of the wealthy hat merchant Emanuel Merian and Salome, née Grimm. He grew up in Basel am Spalenberg in the house "zum Gelben Horn". Merian entered the royal Danish military service in 1710, where he soon became a captain under the Listlerian cuirassier regiment . Merian was convicted several times for his immorality, his violence and for fraudulent marriage and was finally beheaded in Basel. A son of Merian was Johann Rudolf von Merian .
