Johann Rudolf Wyss (the elder)

Johann Rudolf Wyss , called the Elder, (born January 18, 1763 in Bern ; † August 30, 1845 there ) was a Reformed Swiss country pastor and poet.

Life

As the son of Johann Rudolf and Katharina Tribolet of the same name, he married Maria Ernst in 1792 (divorced in 1797) and finally Julia Margaritha Kasthofer in 1804. After training as a pastor in Bern, he served as pastor in Münchenbuchsee between 1791 and 1806 , and then between 1808 and 1821 in Wichtrach . After he resigned from the pastor's office in 1821, he devoted himself to poetry and trained as a draftsman. He died in Bern on January 30, 1845. He is not closely related to Johann Rudolf Wyss (the younger) .

Services

As a poet, he mainly wrote poetry and published, among other things, in the Göttingen Musenalmanach and later for the Alpine roses . As a draftsman, who acted under the name "IRW", he mainly dealt with drawing and watercolor painting of nature and objects.
