Johann Schencking (* around 1600 ; † March 17, 1634 in Herbern ) was canon in Münster .

Life

Johann Schencking was the son of Godeke Schencking zu Bevern and his wife Anna von Valke zu Venhaus and belonged to the landed gentry. Originally the Schenckings came from the Münster hereditary family Schenckinck. For centuries they and the other patrician families of Münster provided members of the city council, mayors and city judges. Around the middle of the 16th century, the hereditary families changed to the landed gentry . This fact was to entry to the cathedral chapter of importance, because for centuries the candidates from Erbmännerfamilien, including the Canon of the same name was Johann Schencking , possession of a Dompräbende disputed. With his revolt to the Schencking, Neuhoff, Valke and Canstein families on January 8, 1626, Johann took possession of a cathedral priest from Münster . The emancipation followed on July 17, 1627. The following year he asked twice for leave to study in Italy. It is not documented whether he completed this there. On March 17, 1634 he fell victim to the Thirty Years' War and died near Herbern. His prebend fell back to the Elector Ferdinand for further award.
