Johann Sebastian Dang

Johann Sebastian Dang (born September 6, 1891 in Bretzenheim near Mainz , † August 18, 1958 in Darmstadt ) founded the regional daily Darmstädter Echo together with Paul Rodemann in 1945 in Darmstadt, southern Hesse .

Life

When his parents moved to Darmstadt at the age of two he came. Here he was a teacher at several schools before he was dismissed by the Nazis for "political unreliability".

In the following years he worked as a proofreader and was active as a writer. From a series of articles in the Darmstädter Tagblatt in 1936 the "Darmstädter dictionary" was created. From 1919 Dang belonged to the German Peace Society , of which he headed the Darmstadt local group from 1923. In this capacity he called a meeting in mid-January 1933 on the subject of "Swastika and steel helmet are Germany's downfall".

In 1945 he received a license from the American military authorities to publish a daily newspaper under German management in Darmstadt. According to his inclinations, Johann Sebastian Dang headed the culture department at the Darmstädter Echo. In December 1949 he left the publishing house as a partner in order to devote himself to his literary interests until his death in 1958.
