Johann Vinzenz rhyme
Johann Vinzenz Reim (born May 28, 1796 in Warnsdorf , † January 14, 1858 in Vienna ) was an Austrian draftsman and engraver.
Born the son of a cotton manufacturer, Johann Vinzenz Reim was trained as a landscape painter. Before 1833 he moved to Vienna and took the citizenship oath in 1836. In 1854 he became a member of the Outer Council of the City of Vienna. As the head of the Poor Institute, he traveled to all countries of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and also visited Bavaria.
In the period from 1834 to 1853, on the occasion of business trips, he created around 550 sketches of views of the places he visited, which he used as templates for colored copper engravings. 148 copper engravings show views of Vienna. These copper engravings are particularly valuable as documents from the first half of the 19th century. They showed main buildings and streets, squares, famous destinations, bridges, steamers and especially the railroad.
The Reims sketchbook from the years 1834 to 1836 is in the collections of the Historical Museum of the City of Vienna .
