from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Wilhelm Siebel (* 1709 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ); † September 5, 1776 there ) was mayor of Elberfeld.

Siebel was born the son of the Elberfeld merchant Johann Abraham Siebel (1677-1712) and his wife Anna Maria Teschemacher (1677-1745) and was baptized on November 16. After the early death of his father, Siebel's mother remarried. Two years later she married Johann Rütger Wuppermann (1679–1759), who was mayor in 1730.

Johann Wilhelm Siebel himself married Anna Margareta Evertsen (1711–1765) from there on October 23, 1731 in Barmen. The couple had eleven children, three of whom died in childhood. The eldest son Johann Rüttger Siebel was mayor three times.

Like his father, Siebel began as a merchant and was a common man in 1741. He was a council member in 1742, 1743, 1746 and 1749. In the following year he became mayor and in 1751 he was city judge. Then he was again in the city council of Elberfeld in 1752, 1754 and 1756.
