Johann Rütger Wuppermann

Johann Rütger Wuppermann (* November 1679 in Barmen ; † July 1759 in Elberfeld , both today districts of Wuppertal ) was a German politician and mayor of Elberfeld.

Wuppermann was born on the Schüren farm in Barmen, which his mother Anna Margareta Siebel (1639–1698) had inherited, but was baptized on November 8, 1679 in Elberfeld. His father Wennemar Wuppermann (1639–1691) was a merchant and yarn bleacher at the Schönenbeck farm in Barmen. Johann Rütger's brother was Johann Kaspar Wuppermann , who had become mayor in 1728. His sister Anna Maria Wuppermann (1673-1727) was also married to Gerhard Werner Teschemacher , the mayor of 1721. Johann Rütger Wuppermann married Anna Maria Teschemacher (1677–1745) on May 12, 1714. He had four children with her. His youngest daughter, Anna Maria Wuppermann (1721–1759) married Johann Jakob Siebel , the mayor from 1756.

After moving to Elberfeld, Johann Rütger Wuppermann worked as a businessman and became a commoner in 1717 and 1718. He was proposed and elected mayor for the first and only time in 1730. The following year he was the city judge in Elberfeld. In 1734 Wuppermann was a council member.
