Kaspar von Carnap (politician, 1709)

Kaspar von Carnap (* 1709 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ); † 1768 there ) was mayor of Elberfeld.

As the son of the Elberfeld merchant and mayor of the years 1718 and 1725, Wilhelm von Carnap (1680–1749) and his wife Rosina Plücker (1686–1733), daughter of the mayor from 1688, Johannes Plücker jr. (1656–1709) and granddaughter of the mayor from 1679 Johannes Plücker sr. (1628-1680), born.

Von Carnap himself married his Duisburg-born cousin Johanna Maria von Carnap (1718–1776) on August 21, 1736, with whom he had a daughter. Anna Maria von Carnap (1739–1768) later married Johann Jakob Schlösser (1742–1788), the mayor of 1773.

Kaspar von Carnap became a merchant and became a member of the city council for the first time in 1737. In 1738 he did so again and in 1739 he was proposed for the first time as mayor. He was then a member of the council from 1740 to 1744 and from 1746 to 1747. In 1746 he was also an unsuccessful mayor candidate, as well as in 1748 and 1759. He was not elected mayor until 1751, he was until he became city judge in May 1752. He was then a council member again in 1752, 1759, 1761 and 1764.
