Life

Origin and family

As the son of the married couple Dietrich von Bronckhorst-Batenburg and Katharina von Gronsfeld , Johann grew up with his seven siblings in a noble family . Numerous personalities emerged from this family line, including Otto Wilhelm von Bronckhorst zu Gronsfeld (auxiliary bishop in Münster).

Career and work

There are no documents that describe Johann's life before he took over the Dompropstei. He is mentioned in a document as provost of the cathedral in 1462. However, he did not take the oath until January 14, 1465. He remained in this office until 1504 and was a representative of the cathedral chapter and an asset manager. On November 5, 1491, when he was sworn in, he was also provost of St. Mauritz . Johann stayed in Rome for long periods of time in recent years . He feared that the cathedral chapter's right to vote could be restricted if he died in Rome. In 1484 Pope Innocent VIII gave his assurance that the rights of the cathedral chapter would not be impaired in such a case. His successor in the office of Provost was Philipp von Hoerde .

Others

Johann was the owner of the office Schöneflieth .
