Johann von Rhemen zu Barnsfeld (* in the 16th century; † in the 17th century) was canon in Münster and Drost zu Gemen .

Life

Origin and family

Johann von Rhemen zu Barnsfeld came from the Westphalian knight family Rhemen zu Barensfeld . It had its origin in Ramsdorf in the Borken district . In 1311 the family members are first mentioned as feudal lords of Wilkinghege Castle , in whose possession they - with interruptions - remained until the family died out. Johann was born as the son of Johann von Rhemen zu Rhede (* 1536-1609) and his second wife Elisabeth von der Tinnen zu Barnsfeld († 1606). She came from the family of hereditary men of the Tinnen .

Act

In 1590 Johann became canon in Münster and renounced his benefice after just one year in office. He became Drost in Gemen (today the city of Borken ). In Westphalia, the office of Drosten was entrusted exclusively to knightly nobles . Their task was to represent the sovereign in a certain area in all matters. Later Johann Katharina married Agnes von Münnich. The son Anton Otto Rudolf von Rhemen zu Barnsfeld emerged from the marriage. He became his father's successor. When he died in 1705, his sister Elisabeth Theodora, who had married Johann Gerhard von Dinklage in 1702, inherited the Barnsfeld estate.

Others

Dorothea von der Tinnen, Johann's aunt, was married to Dietrich von Hetterscheid and inherited the Barnsfeld estate from him. In her will of February 4, 1628, she bequeathed all of her property to Johann. Barnsfeld came into the possession of the von Rhemen family.
