The Pichanaqui District (or Pichanaki District ) is located in the Chanchamayo Province in the Junín administrative region in central Peru . The Pichanaqui district has an area of ​​1497 km². The 2017 census counted 39,054 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 25,332, in 2007 it was 50,529. The administrative seat and population center of the otherwise sparsely populated region is the city of Pichanaqui (also called Bajo Pichanaqui ).

Geographical location

The Pichanaqui district extends across the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The river Río Perené flows through the north of the district in a south-easterly direction. The city of Pichanaqui is located on the right bank of the Río Perené at the confluence of the Río Pichanaqui , which runs along the western district boundary . In the extreme south-west rises a mountain range over 4000  m high. The river Río Ipoqui forms the southeastern boundary of the district. In the east the district extends to the confluence of the Río Autiki in the Río Perené. The lowest point in the district is at an altitude of 433  m .

The Pichanaqui district borders on the Perené district in the west, the Vitoc district in the extreme southwest, the Satipo province in the south and east and the Oxapampa province ( Pasco region ) in the north .
