The district Chanchamayo (span. Distrito de Chanchamayo ) is one of six districts of the province Chanchamayo in the administrative region Junín in central Peru . The administrative seat is the city of La Merced .
Geographical location
The district is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera . It is named after one of the main rivers of the province, the Río Chanchamayo whose headwaters in the Andes - Sierra are and the northward flowing towards the Amazon lowlands and in the north of the district with the Río Paucartambo to Perené River combined.

The district has a population of 27,790 inhabitants (as of 2017) on an area of 739 km², which corresponds to a population density of 37.58 inhabitants / km².
