The Wilkinghege moated castle is a former country residence built in the late Renaissance style in the Kinderhaus district of the Westphalian city of Münster . Since 1955 it has housed a hotel with an attached golf course.

history

Originally there was a moated castle in the same place , which was first mentioned in a document in 1311. It belonged to the fief of the family of Rhemen to Barensfeld and was still in the 14th century to the Lords of Cleyhorst, Erbmänner transferred to Münster.

From 1550 a country seat in the form of a moated castle was built on the site of the old moated castle . It was built by the von Steveninck zu Broich family, heirs to Münster. In 1719 Gottfried Laurenz Pictorius rebuilt it in the Baroque style . The order for this was given by Herr von Harde and his wife Katharina von Keppel. In the years that followed, the castle changed hands several times, but in 1779 it came back into the possession of the Rhemen zu Barenfeld family .

After the family died out, the castle changed hands again. One of the residents and landlords was Werner-Constantin Freiherr Droste zu Hülshoff , brother of the poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff . The new owners became the Winnecken family, who still own it and the property belonging to it. It was used as an estate until 1955 before it was converted into a hotel with a restaurant. Shortly after this conversion, the building caught fire in 1958. The reconstruction was carried out almost true to the original, so that the castle character was preserved. The old farm buildings of the estate were converted into hotel rooms from 1970. From 1990 onwards, the number of beds was reduced in order to be able to meet the higher demands of guests by redesigning them to create larger suites and rooms.

Known guests
