Johann von Sierck
Johann von Sierck († 1305 in Toul ) was bishop of Utrecht from 1290 to 1296 and bishop of Toul from 1296 to 1305 .
Life
Johann came from the Lorraine family of the von Sierck family. He was Archdeacon von Karden in the Archdiocese of Trier and papal chaplain . In 1291 he was appointed Bishop of Utrecht by Past Nicholas IV without prior election by the General Chapter . When he wanted to redeem the castles Vreeland and Montfoort, which had been pledged to Gisbrecht van Amstel and Hermann van Woerden , he was refused. With the help of the Dutch Count Florens V , he managed to conquer the castles. He reformed the clergy in his diocese and raised money to continue building the cathedral . However, he was unable to free the bishopric from the influence of Holland. In 1296 he was transferred to Toul by Boniface VIII . There he managed to restore the long-disturbed order.
