Johanna Arenhövel (born potter * 24. March 1950 in Eisenach ) is a German politician of the CDU . From 1990 to 2004 she was a member of the Thuringian state parliament for the constituency Erfurt I . From 2004 to 2015 she was the Equal Opportunities Officer of the Free State of Thuringia.

Johanna Arenhövel grew up in Eisenach. After school she learned the profession of pharmacy specialist and worked, among other things, in the Eisenach city pharmacy. From 1969 she studied pharmacy in Leipzig. When the first riots began in Poland in 1970, there were numerous debates among the students in Leipzig about understanding democracy and dealing with a dictatorship. In response to the demand for democracy, she was forcibly de-registered with five other students from her studies and referred to the “collective of socialist work” at the pharmacy in Dresden-Friedrichstadt for “rehabilitation”.

After several years in the church service in the care of the elderly, she joined the democratic awakening in 1989 with the beginning of the peaceful revolution , worked actively on the state board and helped organize the first free parliamentary elections and local elections.

In September 1990 she joined the CDU in Germany and ran in Erfurt for the Thuringian state parliament, to which she belonged for the constituency in the north of Erfurt until 2004. Above all, child care, social policy and the participation in the constitutional committee for the creation of a democratic constitution have always been important issues that accompany her to this day.

In August 2004, Johanna Arenhövel became the Equal Opportunities Commissioner of the Free State of Thuringia and thus responsible for enforcing the constitutionally required equality of women and men. But also the issues of domestic violence, forced prostitution and human trafficking were part of her tasks. She held this office until her retirement in summer 2015.

In the state elections in 2014 , she ran unsuccessfully for a new state parliament mandate. As a direct candidate in the Erfurt I constituency, she received 29.2 percent of the vote. She ran in 31st place on the CDU state list.

For many years she was a member of the Erfurt Singing Academy at the Erfurt Opera House. Here she has not only participated in choral symphonic concerts, but also in large operas in the extra choir. B. in Martha and in Tannhauser . She is married, Catholic and has four children and ten grandchildren.
