Johanna Straub (born May 30, 1864 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † July 12, 1956 there ) was a German politician ( DDP ).

Life

Johanna Straub was born as Johanna Zipp in Freiburg as the daughter of grammar school professor Ernst Karl Josef Zipp. After elementary school, she attended a private trade school and a nursing school. After attending courses in social welfare, she runs a day care center run by the Badischer Frauenverein and a holiday colony for girls, which she also set up. She is also active in the Catholic community, in the workers 'education association and in the housewives' association.

She marries the notary Karl Josef Straub . In view of her services, Grand Duke Friedrich I awards the Friedrich Luisen Medal .

After the revolution in 1918 , Johanna Straub was in her mid-fifties and widowed when she began working in politics. She joins the newly founded German Democratic Party (DDP); at times she is a member of the state executive committee. In 1921 she was elected to the Baden state parliament for Freiburg and was a member of it for 8 years. She becomes one of Parliament's secretaries. She is particularly involved in women's politics, culture and social issues.

In 1929, at the age of 65, she retired into private life and died 27 years later largely unnoticed by the public.
