Johanna Wittmann ( 1811 in Mainz - April 7, 1848 in Cannstatt ) was a German theater actress and opera singer .

Life

Wittmann went to the theater at the age of 20 and began her stage career in Mainz. Because of its sonorous and soulful organ, it was used in both opera and drama. After she had perfected her acting skills in Frankfurt am Main under the direction of the celebrated Karoline Lindner , she was engaged at the Stuttgart Court Theater in 1836 . She played a naive and sentimental role, for which she possessed something fascinating and the real soul of the lover. Especially in the fine comedy she was quite excellent.

She possessed grace in play and in performance, gracious naivety, his education, was the darling of the audience, the delight of the gentlemen.

Her reputation soon extended beyond Württemberg , and guest performance invitations followed guest performance invitations.

So she appeared as a guest on the boards of the Hofburgtheater in 1840 , where she received great applause for her sentimental comedy roles.

In 1846 she fell incurably into spiritual night. According to Adolf Palm , she even sprang from the private insane asylum in which she was housed, ran away on the country road with flying hair and tattered clothes, until the country hunters picked her up and brought her to Cannstatt.

Wittmann was married to the music dealer Daniel Jay in his second marriage .
