Johannes Bodenmann

Johannes Bodenmann (born October 4, 1858 in Herisau , Appenzell Ausserrhoden , † June 19, 1939 in Chicago ; resident in Urnäsch ) was a Swiss owner of a large embroidery shop in Chicago.

Life

Johannes Bodenmann was a son of the cheese and butter merchant Johannes Bodenmann. After discontinuing his apprenticeship as a watchmaker , he went to North America ( New York State ) as a cabin boy in 1877 , where he worked his way up from a handyman to an embroidery machine owner and finally to a major entrepreneur.

In 1885 Johannes Baumann married Bertha Schoch, a daughter of the local council, local judge , roofer and clapboard dealer Johann Kaspar Schoch.

From 1890 Johannes Bodenmann was the owner of the important embroidery company Chicago Embroidery Company in Chicago. He was president of the Grütli and Swiss Association as well as the United Swiss Associations Chicago, the Charity Society Chicago and, from 1924, the North American Swiss Confederation.
