Johannes Gerl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Gerl ( October 29, 1803 in Salzburg - January 1, 1873 in Coburg ) was an Austrian opera singer ( baritone ) and singing teacher .

Life

Gerl revealed musical talent early on and was trained for the stage by his father Judas Thaddäus Gerl . After trying many times, he came to Coburg as a baritone player in 1835, at which court stage he was, with the exception of the years 1850 to 1853, when he worked as a singing teacher (because political circumstances removed him from the stage) until his death worked successfully.

His daughter Helene Gerl (1847–1905) was also a singer.
