Johanniskirche in Haina

The Evangelical Lutheran church Johanniskirche in the district of Haina of the municipality of Römhild in the district of Hildburghausen ( Thuringia ) can be traced back to the year 1300. The listed building dates from 1839 in its current form.

history

The Haina Church was first mentioned in 1300 in a wax interest book. In 1315 the Lords of Herbilstadt , a knightly family that lived in Haina and died out at the end of the 16th century, founded their own parish. They had the right of patronage and appointed the first pastor. A vicarie and five altars are documented for the year 1443 .

architecture

The oldest parts of the church date from the end of the 15th century. These are the Gothic choir and sacristy as well as the lower part of the church tower. The upper section of the tower and the roof with a slate double onion and arcades in the shape of a lantern as well as a button and weather vane were probably built in the 18th century. The nave was rebuilt in 1838/39 in place of a previous building in the Gothic style. The stone block structure has five pointed arched windows on both sides between the wall pillars and a gable roof as the top , which was re-covered with bricks in the 20th century. A flat ceiling spans the nave with its two-story gallery . The retracted, polygonal closed choir with the altar hall is separated from the nave by a triumphal arch . It is spanned by a Gothic star vault.

Furnishing

The choir is characterized by a magnificent, baroque altarpiece , which is atypical for a Protestant church , which was probably made in Münnerstadt and donated in 1734 by Peter Seeber, brother of Nicolaus Seeber . The altar shows Peter with a key on the left and Paul with a sword on the right. In the middle there is a crucifixion group with Mary and the disciple John as well as the cross above the body of Jesus and above the risen Christ with the victor's flag. The upper end is the inscription "In honor of the Most Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and in the eternal memory of Peter Seeber, who died in London, the author of this altar erected in 1733" and a radiant sun with the divine name "Jehovah" .

In addition, colored lead glass windows donated by Heinaern families decorate the choir room, right and left with a depiction of Philipp Melanchthon and Martin Luther , in the middle a cross with a halo and in the windows on the north and south sides with depictions of the parable of the sower and the blessing of Jesus as children . On the south wall is the Christmas fresco, which is dated around 1500. It shows Maria in front on the left, Josef behind her on the left and Maria's parents, Anna and Joachim on the right . The baby Jesus is standing on Anna's lap.

In the nave on the north triumphal arch pillar is the pulpit, the pulpit fields were painted in 1622 with the evangelists and their symbols. A tombstone on the south wall dates from 1434. It shows Elisabeth von Herbilstadt, née von Steinau, and the two family coats of arms.

The organ is on the upper gallery on the west side . The two-manual instrument with its 20 registers was built by Nicolaus Seeber for his place of birth between 1718 and 1720. Schuke-Orgelbau restored it between 1993 and 1995. Two thirds of the original substance is still there.

There are three bells hanging in the church tower. The small and large bells were cast as replacements in 1919. The middle bronze bell, the prayer bell, was made in 1777 in a Coburg foundry.
