Johannes Graf (musician)

Johannes Graf (born October 7, 1853 in Oberjettingen near Nagold ; † November 14, 1923 ) was a German church musician and choir director . From 1889 he worked as an organist and director of church music at Ulm Minster .

Live and act

After completing his training at the teachers 'seminar in Nürtingen , Graf joined the teachers' seminar in Esslingen am Neckar as a music teacher and also studied composition, church music and the organ at the Royal Conservatory in Stuttgart . In 1879 he became the choir conductor and organist of the Heilbronn synagogue , and in 1882 he took over the position of cantor at the Kilian's Church in Heilbronn.

In 1889 Graf was appointed head of church music and organist at the Ulm Minster. From a choir put together by him in 1890 on the occasion of the completion of the cathedral building, the Ulm Oratorio Choir, which still exists today, developed . In 1893 Graf also took over the management of the Ulm Liedertafel. In 1904 he was awarded the title of professor. After a stroke, Graf had to temporarily stop his musical activities in 1916 and then permanently in 1918.
