Johannes Hau
John Hau (* 17th April 1771 in Flensburg , † July 22 . Jul / 3. August 1838 greg. In Tallinn ) was a Baltic German painter.
life and work
Johannes Hau came to Tallinn from Flensburg in 1795. From 1806 he was Oldermann of the esteemed Tallinn Canoeist Guild .
Hau is best known for his views of the Estonian cities of Tallinn (German Reval ) and Narva ( Narwa ) in gouache . He also appeared as a landscape painter in the Baltic States .
Johannes Hau was buried in the cemetery in the Tallinn district of Kopli ( brick paddock ). The cemetery was destroyed by the Soviet occupation authorities after 1945 .
Private life
Johannes Hau is the father of the two Baltic German painters Eduard (1807–1888) and Woldemar Hau (1816–1895).
