Johannes Hoffmann (medical doctor)

Johannes Hoffmann (* 1968 ) is a German specialist in vascular surgery . He is a university professor and director of the Clinic for Vascular Surgery and Phlebology at the Elisabeth Hospital in Essen . His research focuses on dialysis shunt surgery , hybrid surgery, endovascular procedures, postoperative coagulation management, sepsis and ischemia as well as reperfusion damage .

Education and professional career

After studying music in the field of flute (graduate musician and state-certified music teacher) and human medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU), Hoffmann worked from 1995 to 2012 at the Surgical Clinic and Polyclinic of the LMU Großhadern. In 1996 he became a research assistant and in 2003 a senior physician. From 1999 he completed several research stays at the Institute for Clinical- Experimental Surgery at Saarland University . In 2002 the first independent kidney and pancreas transplants were carried out. In 2003 he became a specialist in surgery with the additional designation of surgical intensive medicine and emergency medicine, in 2009 a specialist in vascular surgery and in 2010 a specialist in visceral surgery and special visceral surgery. In 2012 he received the designation of Endovascular Surgeon (DGG) and Endovascular Specialist (DGG).

In 2009 Hoffmann became Deputy Head of Vascular Surgery in Großhadern and received an extraordinary professorship at LMU.In 2011, he became Managing Senior Physician in the Vascular Surgery Section and Head of Vascular Surgery Research at the LMU, and on March 1, 2012, Head of the newly established Vascular Surgery Section at Essen University Hospital. Hoffmann has also been Director of the Clinic for Vascular Surgery and Phlebology at the Contilia Heart and Vascular Center at the Elisabeth Hospital in Essen since March 2014. At the end of 2016 he left the University Hospital Essen and has only worked at the Elisabeth Hospital since then.

Scientific work

Hoffmann's work as a vascular surgeon focuses on endovascular aortic surgery and complex revision interventions. Hoffmann is a reviewer u. a. active for the arbitration board of the Medical Association of North Rhine, the arbitration board of the State Medical Association of Munich and various courts. He is the author of numerous publications and textbooks and co-editor of the journals Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine Scan .
