Johannes Ludwig Heinrich Möller (born October 8, 1814 in Lübeck , † October 31, 1885 in London ) was a German miniature painter .

Life

Around 1835 Möller was a student of Friedrich Carl Gröger and Heinrich Jacob Aldenrath in Altona . From 1836/37 to 1839/40 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen , from 1837 to 1839 he traveled through Norway and Sweden. A first stay in Paris took place in 1840/41 with the private support of the Danish King Christian VIII , followed by a second stay in Paris from 1842–1844. Möller was a student there in the studios of Théodore Gudin and Paul Delaroche . In 1845 he was again in Paris, where he took part in the Paris Salon from 1843-1845 and 1847 . Between 1844 and 1848 he was a Danish court miniature painter in Copenhagen, and in 1844 he was appointed a member of the local art academy and was granted Danish citizenship. From 1848 to 1850 he carried out portraits of the Swedish royal family in Stockholm and then lived in London from 1850 to 1859, where he took part in exhibitions at the Royal Academy from 1851 to 1873 . A stay in Saint Petersburg followed from 1859 to 1861 and in 1860 he was appointed a member of the Russian Art Academy . Möller finally settled in London in 1861.
