Johannes Wolf Oechelhäuser (born April 28, 1787 in Siegen ; † March 4, 1869 there ) was a German entrepreneur , paper manufacturer and mayor of Siegen.

Johannes Oechelhäuser came from the marriage of the Siegen entrepreneur and councilor Johann Heinrich Oechelhäuser (1739–1803) and Maria Elisabeth geb. Blecher (c. 1755-1814). In his first marriage he was married to Maria Elisabeth geb. Langer, in second marriage with Marianne Charlotte (Marie-Lotte) geb. Schenck. 14 children came from both marriages, including Justus Wilhelm .

Life

Johannes Oechelhäuser first learned to be a baker. In 1818 he bought the fulling mill in the Leimbachtal near Siegen and converted it into a paper mill. In 1837 he expanded it to include a mechanical engineering workshop. Johannes Oechelhäuser was one of the most important paper manufacturers and paper machine designers of his time and is considered the inventor of the straw paper machine.

With the serious changes in economic life after the March Revolution of 1848/1849 , the family business initially collapsed. Justus Wilhelm left the company and switched to politics and as General Director of the Deutsche Continental-Gas-Gesellschaft in Frankfurt am Main; his brothers Heinrich and Adolf rebuilt the paper machine design from 1850 as A. & H. Oechelhaeuser , but with a focus on large engine construction. The Siegen Maschinenfabrik AG is the parent plant.

Johannes Oechelhäuser was councilor in Siegen. From 1836 to 1837 he was mayor of Siegen.
