John Paul Hops

Johannes Paul Hops (born June 21, 1734 in Mietingen ; † in the 18th or 19th century) was a German sculptor .

Life and works

Johannes Paul Hops belonged to the Hops family of sculptors and was a son of Johann Adam Hops . He learned his trade either from this one or from his uncle Josef Anton Hops , then became a journeyman with a member of the Feichtmayr family of artists and later with the Dirr brothers. Apparently he then settled as a master in Markdorf , as the name “Sculptor of Markdorf” has been passed down. He signed a letter to the Monastery of Salem on October 13, 1779 with the title “High Princely Court Sculptor”.

Works by Johannes Paul Hop can be found in Opfenbach and Baitenhausen .

He had a younger brother named Johann Baptist Hops .
