Mietingen is a municipality in the district of Biberach in Baden-Württemberg .
Community structure
The community consists of the three districts Mietingen, Baltringen and Walpertshofen .
history
Mietingen was first mentioned in a document in 1083. At that time, today's municipality was in the Duchy of Swabia . In 1270 the place came temporarily as a fief to the bishopric of St. Johann in Konstanz . However, from 1300 it belonged to the Lords of Freyberg . From 1442 until secularization in 1803 it was under the control of the Heggbach monastery . At first it went to the Counts of Plettenberg , but in 1806 it fell to the Kingdom of Württemberg as part of mediatization . There it belonged first to the Oberamt Wiblingen (later renamed Oberamt Laupheim ) and since the district reform in 1938 to the district of Biberach .
From 1934 to 1945 the field airfield "Freifeld" , E-Hafen II. Order of the German Air Force, was located in Mietingen . Here mainly flight students were trained on Arado Ar 96 trainer aircraft for use on other aircraft types. At the end of the war, the air base was the target of Allied low-flying attacks several times. Some of the massive buildings still stand today.
On November 1, 1974 the communities Baltringen and Walpertshofen were incorporated into Mietingen.
Districts
Baltringen
Baltringen was first mentioned in a document in 1274. A church has been documented since 1370 that was subordinate to the parish church in Laupheim . In the 14th century the place belonged to the Lords of Freyberg .
During the time of the German Peasants' War , Baltringer farmers founded the Baltringer Haufen in 1524 to take action against the authorities. In Upper Swabia around Lake Constance, it had been fermenting for a long time, and within a short time in February and March 1525 three armed peasant heaps were formed, including the Seehaufen and the Allgäuer Haufen as well as the Baltringer Haufen, the largest peasant heap in the region. More than 12,000 farmers, citizens and clergy gathered in the Baltringer Ried within a few days. On April 12, 1525, the forces of the Swabian Confederation put the Baltringer group led by Ulrich Schmid and Sebastian Lotzer and defeated them after a short battle. The farmers were disarmed and everyone had to pay a heavy fine. The "Baltringer Haufen Memorial - Peasants' War in Upper Swabia" is located in the basement of the Baltringen town hall.
During the Thirty Years' War in 1636 almost the entire population of Baltringen was killed by the plague .
Walpertshofen
The village of Walpertshofen was first mentioned in 1127 when Count Rudolf von Chur gave his estate near Walpertshofen in exchange to Count Eberhard von Kirchberg for his estate Hattenburg. As far as the historical documents go back, Walpertshofen belonged to the rule of Bußmannshausen . From 1434 this rule was held by the von Roth family as an Austrian man's fief, until it passed to the Hornstein family in 1794. The manor of Bußmannshausen, to which Walpertshofen belonged at that time, came from the Austrian house in 1805 under Grand Ducal Baden, on January 1, 1806 under royal Württemberg sovereignty.
Like Mietingen, Walpertshofen first came to the Biberach District Office, from 1810 to the Wiblingen / Laupheim District Office and from 1938 to the Biberach District.
