Municipal council

The local council in Oggelshausen has eight members. It consists of the voluntary councilors and the mayor as chairman. The mayor is entitled to vote in the municipal council. In the local elections on May 26, 2019, the local council was elected by majority vote. Majority voting takes place if no or only one nomination has been submitted. The applicants with the highest number of votes are then elected. The turnout was 65.9% (2014: 58.8%).

The mayor is elected for an eight-year term. The current incumbent Ralf Kriz was re-elected in September 2013 with 73.17% of the vote, his term of office ends on November 30, 2021.

Culture and sights

  • Sculpture field: In 1969 and 1970 two international sculpture symposia with a total of 15 sculptors from five countries took place in Oggelshausen . The 15 stone sculptures they created can be viewed as the “Oggelshausen Sculpture Field”. At the "European Sculpture Symposium 2000" 10 new sculptures were added.

Buildings

  • Catholic parish church St. Laurentius and St. Agatha : Today's parish church was built in the years 1901–1902 according to plans by the church builder Ulrich Pohlhammer on the site of a more than 500-year-old predecessor church, which last had a baroque design. The tower from 1715 was preserved. The three-aisled basilica with retracted choir is kept entirely in the neo-Gothic style in accordance with the construction time. In 1914 it received a high-quality, all wall surfaces and the vaulted ceiling by the Bubenhofer company from Gossen near St. Gallen and the Eisele company from Alleshausen.
