About this picture

Altheim is a municipality in the district of Biberach in Baden-Württemberg . It is located on the Danube , in the immediate vicinity of the city of Riedlingen .

Community structure

In addition to the eponymous district Altheim, the formerly independent communities Heiligkreuztal and Waldhausen , which were incorporated on July 1, 1974, also belong to the community .

history

Altheim was first mentioned in a document in 835. It was originally under the rule of the Counts of Veringen before it came into Habsburg possession around 1300 . Since the end of the 16th century, the village - still under Habsburg rule - was administered by the Waldburg Truchess , who sold it to the princes of Thurn und Taxis in 1786 along with many other localities . In 1806 Altheim came to the Kingdom of Württemberg as a result of the Rhine Confederation Act and the associated mediation . There it was added to the Oberamt Riedlingen . With the district reform in 1938, Altheim then became part of the Saulgau district . It has belonged to the Biberach district since 1973 .

In earlier times the people of Altheim were mocked as "sun and moon catchers", which encouraged the Swabian dialect poet Michel Buck from Ertingen to write his original poem D Sonn- und Mau'fanger around 1888 .

Religions

A church in Altheim was first mentioned in a document in 1227. It is the Catholic Saint Martins Church .

coat of arms

In the Altheim municipal archive there is a letter of coat of arms from Emperor Leopold I dated January 21, 1681 which, in addition to a picture, contains the following description of the coat of arms : A three-part shield, the middle part red or ruby, the upper part yellow or gold; At the bottom of the shield is a white or silver-colored brook or river next to a slightly elevated green shore or bank adjoining it, on this a beaver in its natural color, with its rear feet very upright and facing inwards, with a flapping tail, an open mouth and a red tongue ; holding the Austrian shield in the two front feet. The following words are written around the entire shield in Latin letters: Althaimb am Piberpach 1681.

The municipality still carries this coat of arms today.
