history
Until the 19th century
We find the first written traces from Dettingen as early as 799 , when a noble named Adalmann venerated goods in Tantingen to the St. Gallen monastery . Whether it is Dettingen an der Iller cannot be said for sure. Then in 876 Egino gave goods and people at Tetinga to the same monastery of St. Gallen. This document is considered the first safe mention. The name Dettingen can be traced back to an Alemmanic foundation of a noble named Tetto or "Tato" with the ending -ingen . Dettingen also had its own village nobility, presumably due to its longstanding affiliation with Kellmünz. You could have been Ministeriale of the Counts of Kellmünz. The name Thädingen for Ober- and Unterdettingen also appears in 1165/66 when Welf VII. Kellmünz , Filzingen , Unterroth , Weiler and both of Dettingen burned down.
From the 11th century until the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss at the beginning of the 19th century , the place belonged to the rule Kellmünz on the Iller .
In 1806 Dettingen first fell to the Kingdom of Bavaria , before switching to the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1810 . The population in 1837 was 780.
1926–1928 a water canal, a reservoir and a hydroelectric power station were built by OEW = Oberschwäbische Elektrizitätswerke. That brought a lot of work to Dettingen.
In 1932 there were 1032 inhabitants.
In World War II there were 83 dead and missing.
World wars
In the First World War 48 men were killed and seven went missing. 56 soldiers never returned from the Second World War and 27 are still missing today. On April 18, 1945 around 1:50 p.m. American planes dropped bombs on Unterdettingen. Six residents, five evacuees, a Polish farm worker, an Italian farm worker and five soldiers from a railway pioneer unit lost their lives.
The local residents who lost their lives were three farmers on their way to tilling fields and two women who were met in their homes.
