Berkheim is an Upper Swabian municipality in the Biberach district in Baden-Württemberg in Germany .
geography
Berkheim is located five kilometers west of Memmingen an der Iller in the Donau-Iller region .
In addition to Berkheim, the community also includes the districts of Bonlanden , Illerbachen and Eichenberg .
history
Berkheim
Berkheim was first mentioned in a document in 1093 in the founding document of the Ochsenhausen monastery . The place was part of the spiritual territory of the premonstratensian Reichsabbey Rot an der Rot until the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803 . In 1806 the community was incorporated into the Kingdom of Württemberg . Until 1938 the Iller valley community belonged to the Oberamt Leutkirch ; since then it has belonged to the Biberach district.
There are three lost castles, Burg Berkheim , Burg Schelleneigen and the aristocratic seat of Illerbachen in the municipality .

Bonlanden
The place Bonlanden was first mentioned in 1128 as a Bonlandin . On April 17, 1855, Faustin Mennel laid the foundation stone of the Bonlanden Monastery , which is today the motherhouse of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady .

Municipal council
The municipal council in Berkheim consists of the elected honorary councilors and the mayor as chairman. The mayor is entitled to vote in the municipal council. The local elections on May 26, 2019 led to the following final result. The turnout was 58.2% (2014: 55.5%).

Berkheim has had a community partnership with the French community Coubron in the Seine-Saint-Denis department since 1992 .

Blazon : "In red a golden pilgrim's hat with a golden cord all around, double knotted at the front and ending in two tassels, accompanied by two golden shells at the top."
On November 18, 1957, the community received permission from the Ministry of the Interior to carry a coat of arms with two golden pilgrim shells and the golden pilgrim hat of St. Willebold in red.

Berkheim is located on the federal autobahn 7 Flensburg - Füssen with the exit Berkheim and on the federal highway 312 ( Memmingen - Stuttgart airport ).
Educational institutions
Berkheim has its own elementary school . There is a special school in the Bonlanden district .
Companies
The headquarters of the well-known construction company Max Wild is located in Berkheim , which has made a name for itself throughout southern Germany , especially through the demolition of industrial and company buildings, such as the partial demolition of the old Stuttgart Exhibition Center .
