history

Eberhardzell, previously also written Eberhardszell, Eberzell or Mariazell, was first mentioned in a document in 1246 . In 1331 the Lords of Walsee sold the place to the Habsburgs , who donated the parish to the Schussenried monastery in 1456 . Due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss in 1803, their goods fell to the Count of Sternberg-Manderscheid as compensation for the loss of territory on the left bank of the Rhine. Since 1520 the place Eberhardzell belonged to the Truchsessen von Waldburg-Wolfegg-Waldsee. In the wake of the Peace of Pressburg, Upper Swabia came under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Württemberg . Eberhardzell was assigned to the Oberamt Waldsee as a municipality before it came to the Biberach district as part of the district reform in 1938 .

Heinrichsburg

Heinrichsburg, called Herlisberg or Herlinsberg until 1620, above Eberhardzell, was privately owned by the family of the Counts of Waldburg-Wolfegg-Waldsee until 1997. The last owner was Heinrich Graf von Waldburg-Wolfegg -Waldsee, († 1972) married to Maria-Antonia Princess of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen († 2011). This marriage resulted in ten children.
