The Neideck ruin , also called Neidegg or Herlisberg , is the ruin of a hilltop castle in the municipality of Eberhardzell in the district of Biberach in Baden-Württemberg .
Geographical location
The Neideck ruin is located on the wooded eastern flank of the high ground on a western mountain spur (approx. 640 m above sea level ) of the Umlach valley , about 650 meters north of the Eberhardzeller church.
history
The castle was built in the 13th century by the lords of Neidegg and expanded from 1487. In 1520, after the death of Viktor von Neidegg, who was without a male heir, the husbands of his four daughters sold the castle and property to the head assistant Georg von Waldburg . In 1525 the castle was destroyed during the Peasants' War and around 1600 Truchsess Heinrich began to build Heinrichsburg Castle, which is about 250 meters southwest of Neideck Castle, from the remains of the wall from the Neidegg and Schweinhausen ruins .
Remnants of the wall of the former castle are still preserved.
