Karl-Heinz Wöhrlin (born July 21, 1957 in Villingen-Schwenningen ) is a former German soccer player who played 122 games in the Bundesliga from 1984 to 1989 and scored one goal.

career

2nd Bundesliga soccer, 1976 to 1984

At the age of 19, Wöhrlin, who had come from Alemannia Zähringen to BSV Schwenningen , who had been promoted to the Black Forest-Bodensee amateur league , made his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga group south. The young defensive player completed the most BSV games with 35 appearances with coaches Michael Pfeiffer and Josef Becker . The guest appearance of the Schwenninger was limited to one round in the 2nd division and Wöhrlin thus played in the 1977/78 season with the BSV in the Black Forest-Bodensee amateur league. For the 1978/79 round he accepted a contract offer from SC Freiburg , the South Baden promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga.

A coach change from Manfred Brief to Heinz Baas was necessary , but the sporting gain from the other newcomers Günther Wienhold , Paul Dörflinger (the striker from SV Weil scored 20 goals) and Joachim Löw was enough at the end of the round to secure relegation in the first Round from Wöhrlin at SC Freiburg. In 28 encounters he had contributed to the 15th place at the side of the top performance Reinhard Binder . On matchday 10, Wöhrlin experienced his first derby against Freiburg FC . In six rounds - 1978 to 1984 - the defender was used in 197 league games and scored five goals for the sports club. He had dealt with the coaches Brief, Baas, Josef Becker, Norbert Wagner, Karl-Heinz Bente, Lutz Hangartner, Werner Olk and Fritz Fuchs and in the summer of 1984 he said goodbye to Bayer in seventh place in the Bundesliga 05 Uerdingen .

Football Bundesliga, 1984 to 1989

Together with the newcomers Wolfgang Funkel and Wolfgang Schäfer , the man from the Black Forest strengthened the team of coach Karl-Heinz Feldkamp in Uerdingen. Wöhrlin made his debut on the first matchday of the 1984/85 round, on August 24, 1984, in the away game against Werder Bremen . The Bundesliga club from Krefeld reached seventh place in the Bundesliga and Wöhrlin had played 33 games.

But sporting highlights for Wöhrlin and Bayer Uerdingen were the surprising path to success in the DFB Cup . On May 26, 1985, the men around Friedhelm Funkel - Wöhrlin played in defense - won the 1985 Cup final in Berlin with 2-1 goals against the clear favorites FC Bayern Munich . In the second Bundesliga round, the Black Forest player made 32 Bundesliga appearances in 1985/86 and Bayer Uerdingen took third place. This season, the games in the European Cup Winners' Cup were added. Wöhrlin played against Zurrieq FC , Galatasaray Istanbul , Dynamo Dresden and Atlético Madrid . In the 7: 3 sensational success in the second leg on March 19, 1986 in Uerdingen against Dresden - after a 1: 3 half-time deficit - he was not part of the victorious Feldkamp team.

In the summer of 1987 he moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga Karlsruher SC . After the second round in 1988/89 - Wöhrlin was used by coach Winfried Schäfer in ten matches - he ended his league career after 122 Bundesliga games in 1989 at the age of 32. Karl-Heinz Wöhrlin played the last game in the Bundesliga with his teammates Oliver Kreuzer , Daniel Simmes and Wolfgang Trapp on May 25, 1989 in the Wildpark Stadium against Bayer 04 Leverkusen .

Wöhrlin, known as the "Brazilian", was not the type of hard-core and tackled defensive worker; rather, the light-footed defensive man was a “brother light-footed” who was able to make coaches and goalkeepers incandescent, as he mostly tried to solve his task with playful means. His open game, however, was always a win for his teams due to his running class and his technique.

Today Wöhrlin works as a car salesman in Donaueschingen.
