The castle Schweinhausen even mountain called, is a Outbound hilltop castle in Schweinhausen , a suburb of high village in the district of Biberach in Baden-Württemberg .
Geographical location
The Burgstall is located on the western flank of the high ground on an eastern mountain spur (approx. 640 m above sea level ) above the valley of the Riss , approx. 440 m southeast of the church in the Hochdorf district of Schweinhausen . The site is located in the hamlet of Berg, which belongs to Schweinhausen .
history
The castle was built in the 11th century by the Lords of Schweinhausen, mentioned in 1083, destroyed in 1525 and demolished in 1609. Truchsess Heinrich built Heinrichsburg Castle near Eberhardzell from the remains of the wall from the Schweinhausen and Neideck ruins . Former owners were the lords of Waldburg-Warthausen , Habsburg and the lords of Schellenberg.
King Philip of Swabia and Irene of Byzantium spent their honeymoon at Schweinhausen Castle until September 1197 after their wedding, which is said to have taken place near Augsburg in May 1197. A certificate from Philip, issued on July 30, 1197 in Schweinhausen, has been preserved from this period.
Todays use
Only the mighty moat with a depth of up to twelve meters remains from the former castle complex . The round area on which the castle stood, now framed by trees, is privately owned and used as a paddock. It is located a few meters south of the mountain no.6 building.
