About this picture

Dürnau is a municipality in the district of Biberach in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

The community is located four kilometers from the Federsee and the city of Bad Buchau , in a flat, hilly ground moraine landscape and touches the Federseeried.

history

Presumably founded in the High Middle Ages as an expansion settlement, the place was first mentioned in 1171 as Dornon . Local nobility is mentioned in 1171 and 1239, when the lords of Dornon were ministerials of the Counts of Veringen and the Counts of Württemberg-Grüningen, respectively. In the 14th century, the place was under the rule of the Counts of Hornstein , who sold it in 1387 to the abbess of Buchau Abbey. As a legacy, the place came to the Buchau Abbey . In the Thirty Years War , many of the resident genders - especially the male line - died out. Until 1700 there was a strong influx of immigrants from Switzerland. This is still preserved in two court names: Zurich and Schweizer's house . With the secularization , Dürnau, like the monastery, came to the princes of Thurn and Taxis in 1803 . From 1806 the Kingdom of Württemberg had state sovereignty and administered Dürnau from 1810 as part of the Riedlingen District Office . In 1938 the place came to the district of Saulgau , on January 1, 1973 to the district of Biberach (see also Dürnau Castle ).

In 1694 the Dürnau parish was given to the Buchau Abbey as a pledge and was finally taken over by the latter in 1745. In addition, during the carnival season, the Gugga music Xälzbära with its around 40 amateur musicians is active at evening events and parades of the surrounding fools' guilds. It was founded in 1987 mainly by members of the band who were active at the time. A youth center, fire brigade, baking association, women's gymnastics association and an association of landmarks can be named as further associations.

Economy and Infrastructure

Dürnau was characterized by agriculture until after the Second World War. Since there was no division of inheritance, the farms were relatively large. The stately half-timbered houses still bear witness to this. As part of the land consolidation , some resettler farms were built.

traffic

The last narrow-gauge line in Württemberg , the Federseebahn Bad Schussenried - Buchau - Riedlingen , was extended to Dürmentingen in 1915 . From there, the last remaining piece to Riedlingen was completed in 1916. In 1960 the line was closed. There was no stop for Dürnau.
