geography
location
Moosburg is located on the edge of the Federsee basin and includes silted up areas of the Urfedersee and gently sloping old moraine land . The hamlet of Siedlung Moosburg is a street village of around one kilometer in length and lies on a moraine tongue that extends into the basin from the north. The community is free of forests.
Community structure
The municipality of Moosburg consists of the eponymous hamlet Moosburg and the hamlet Brackenhofen.
history
Until the 19th century
The banks of the Ice Age Federsee in what is now the municipality are attributed to an age of around 8,000 years based on radiocarbon studies . Archaeological finds point to a settlement in the Middle Stone Age .
In 1306 a castle is mentioned in the Habsburg land register (“There is a castle stable and a mat by the lake”). In 1411 it is mentioned in a document as "Müsburg" and in 1496 as "Mospurg" (from Moos = moor).
The Burgstall was sold to the Buchau Abbey in 1496 by a citizen of Buchau . The hamlet of Moosburg was created by Buchau Abbey after clearing in 1792 and was given the name of the castle. The last abbess of Buchau planned her burial chapel in the place, but it was demolished unfinished in 1812.
The Brackenhofen district was mentioned as belonging to Betzenweiler in the 15th century. In the 17th century, two farms in Brackenhofen were owned by Buchau Abbey.
As a result of secularization , Moosburg came to the Princes of Thurn and Taxis with the Buchau monastery in 1803 , who incorporated it into the newly formed imperial principality of Buchau . With the mediatization of this principality, the place came under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1806 . As early as 1807, King Friedrich I of Württemberg visited the Federsee and after a boat trip he docked with his entourage in Moosburg.
Administrative affiliation
Moosburg was part of the municipality of Betzenweiler, which belonged to the Oberamt Riedlingen . In 1873/1874 Moosburg and Brackenhofen were spun off from the municipality of Betzenweiler and since then has formed an independent municipality in the Oberamt Riedlingen. From 1938 it belonged to the Saulgau district , after its dissolution in 1973 to the Biberach district .
Religions
Moosburg has a Roman Catholic influence. In Moosburg there is a branch parish of the parish of St. Clemens in Betzenweiler , which belongs to the Riedlingen deanery of the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese . A chapel of St. Modesta, built in 1882 to replace an older chapel, was demolished in 1966 after the opening of a new church of St. Mary.
The Protestant Christians belong to the parish of Bad Buchau in the Riedlingen parish of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .
