Markus Liebherr

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Markus Liebherr (born March 30, 1948 in Germany , legal domicile in Bulle ; † August 10, 2010 ) was a Swiss entrepreneur and owner of MALI International AG, which he founded in 1994. He was one of the five children of Hans Liebherr , the founder of the construction machinery company Liebherr .

Life

Markus Liebherr studied mechanical engineering and even then had an increased interest in special agricultural vehicles. In the 1980s he held the same shares in what was then Liebherr Holding as his brothers Hubert , Willi and his sister Isolde .

As the Liebherr Group headquartered Bulle in canton Friborg moved, he gave up his shares in the company and founded in 1994 the MALI group on the Heinrichsburg in Eberhardzell in the district of Biberach in Upper Swabia , the the the logo Schlüter carries -Bären.

After the Bavarian tractor manufacturer Anton Schlueter Munich ceased production in the early 1990s, Mali developed an unofficial successor. Liebherr had already equipped some Schlüter tractors with Liebherr engines. Only a few prototypes of the two models of the Mali trac with 250 and 300 hp were built, although the concept with a sprung front axle, 50 km / h top speed, a large cab with a rotatable driver's platform and a removable power lift and hydraulic block was groundbreaking. However, they were not satisfied with the tried and tested gearboxes, so the project was initially put on hold. In July 2009, Markus Liebherr acquired the financially troubled English football club FC Southampton .

Markus Liebherr passed away on the night of August 10, 2010 at the age of 62.

The MALI Group focuses on the development and market launch of off-road products . The company consists of five independent companies:

At Agritechnica 2009, the world's largest trade fair for agricultural technology, Mali presented its trac 140 system carrier for municipal applications. In addition, the Kirowez importer L&K (Land and Motor Vehicle Technology Stadtilm) showed a 400 HP articulated handlebar with the continuously variable Mali WSG 250 transmission. MALI Spezialfahrzeuge GmbH in Schönebeck filed for bankruptcy in 2012.
