Baltringen is a district of the municipality Mietingen in the district of Biberach in Upper Swabia .

description

Baltringen is located on the federal highway 30 two kilometers west of Mietingen in the valley of the Dürnach just before the confluence with the Riss plain . At the northern end of the two-line street village is the church on the edge of a slope.

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1274. Ulrich and Berthold named themselves after the place, who in 1274 seal themselves as witnesses in a legal act with the Truchsessen von Waldburg in Warthausen. In the second half of the 15th century, the Ulm citizen Schleicher can be verified as the local ruler. Before that, it was the Lords of Freyberg. The Upper Landvogtei Swabia exercised high and blood jurisdiction. The Biberach Heilig Geist Spital also played a role in the history of the place.

The Baltringer Ried is located west of Baltringen. During the Peasants' War the Baltringer Haufen gathered there under the leadership of Ulrich Schmied from Sulmingen. Sebastian Lotzer from Memmingen , who wrote the twelve articles based on complaints from the farmers, was appointed field clerk .

After the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss the place with Biberach came to the Electorate of Baden , 1806 to the Kingdom of Württemberg and there to the Oberamt Laupheim . In the area around Baltringen, ruins of the Freifeld airfield, which existed from 1937 to 1945, can still be seen. In the First World War , Baltringen had 32 war victims and in the Second World War 40 killed and missing.

On November 1, 1974, Baltringen was incorporated into Mietingen.

In Baltringen there is the association Baltringer Haufen - Friends of Heimatgeschichte e. V.

economy

The place is predominantly agricultural. In the abandoned quarries "Beizlesberg", "Kodlesberg" and "Steingrüble" the "Baltringer sandstone" was mined. Pastor Probst made well-known fossil finds in the breaks. In Baltringen there is also a branch of the Olin Corporation , the headquarters of Matthäus Schmid Bauunternehmen GmbH & Co. KG , a driving school and a branch of the balloon sport Oberschwaben. There are also numerous small businesses, craft businesses and the self-employed.

coat of arms

The municipal coat of arms was awarded in 1962 and shows a slanting silver flag growing on the lower edge, covered with a black waistband turned to the left. The coat of arms is reminiscent of the Baltringer heap.

Flood

At the end of May and June in 2016, Baltringen and numerous other villages in the area were flooded after initially days of rain and subsequent violent storms. The Dürnach flooded its banks twice within just under four weeks and flooded the entire town center. Over 100 cellars were full, and the Bundeswehr had to deliver relief supplies to the affected areas by helicopter.
