Johannes Sembach (politician)

Johannes Sembach , also Johann Sembach (* 1671 in Strasbourg ; † August 20, 1720 in Karlsruhe ) was a German businessman, politician and the first mayor of the city of Karlsruhe.

Life

Sembach was born in Strasbourg and came to Karlsruhe via Mühlburg and Durlach . He was a merchant, butcher and host of the Gasthaus zum Waldhorn and was elected mayor by 55 citizens on March 24, 1718. The city council meetings were held in his restaurant as there was no town hall yet. His tenure lasted from August 20, 1718 to 1720; on August 20, 1720 he died in Karlsruhe.
