Johannes Szypulski

Johannes Maria Szypulski OCist (born June 25, 1956 in Mława , Poland ) is a Polish Cistercian . He has been the 69th Abbot of Zwettl in Lower Austria since 2017 .

Life

Johannes Maria Szypulski studied at the seminary in Płock , but was not admitted to the priestly ordination for health reasons . In 1982 he joined Zwettl Abbey . In June 1985 the Bishop of St. Pölten , Franz Žak , ordained him as a priest here .

After years as prefect of the choir boys of the monastery and responsible for the novices , he was active in the parish pastoral care in Großinzersdorf and Loidesthal in the Archdiocese of Vienna from 1992 . Since 2016 he was prior of the Zwettl Abbey.

On May 29, 2017, Johannes Szypulski was elected as the successor of Wolfgang Wiedermann as abbot of Zwettl Abbey. The Abtsbenediktion gave him the St. Poelten Bishop Klaus Küng on 27 August of that year. As a motto he chose Fortitudo mea Maria (Maria is my strength).
