Johannes Walser (entrepreneur, 1773)

Johannes Walser (born November 12, 1773 in Heiden ; † May 15, 1833 in Messina ; legal resident in Wald and from around 1778 from Heiden) was a merchant from the Swiss canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johannes Walser was a son of Matthias Walser, businessman and mayor , and Barbara Mösle. The merchant Walser took over the trading business of his uncles Jakob and Bartholome Walser in Messina. During the British occupation, he gained a trading monopoly in Sicily and made high profits. He made important donations to the communities of the Appenzeller Vorderland, the Trogen Cantonal School and two hospitals in Naples .
