Johann (es) of the Armenians ( ancient Greek Ἰωάννης ὁ Ἀρμένιος ; † December 533 ) was an East Roman officer and adjutant of General Belisarius during the Vandal war . According to Prokopios of Caesarea , he was responsible for the finances of the Roman expedition and was particularly known for his bravery.

In the battle of Ad Decimum he commanded the vanguard of the Eastern Roman army , which succeeded in killing Ammatas, the brother of the Vandal king Gelimer , whereupon the latter fled. In the decisive battle at Tricamarum , Johannes wore the bandon , the main banner, and commanded the center of the army. After the victory, Belisarius gave him the command of 200 men to catch up with the fleeing King Gelimer and to confront him. Shortly before they could catch up with Gelimer, Johannes was mistakenly killed by an arrow from Uliaris, one of his soldiers. The persecution of Gelimer had to be stopped. Belisarius is said to have mourned his death very much.
