Joseph Dehler

Joseph Dehler (* 1944 in Marbach (Petersberg) ) is a former German university professor in the field of education and later a political advisor. In 1998 he was candidate for mayor in Fulda .

Life

Dehler grew up in Fulda in the Lehnerz district. After training and working in the hotel business, he did his military service with the Federal Police (BGS). He then attended the hotel management schools in Tegernsee and Bad Wiessee and began the second educational path. He then studied social work at the University of Applied Sciences in Frankfurt am Main with the degree "State-recognized social worker". During this time he was also the chairman of the General Student Committee (AStA).

After that he was u. a. active as department head for society and politics at the adult education center Bad Homburg. At the same time he studied education, social and political science as well as psychology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, graduating as a qualified pedagogue. He also completed a legal traineeship for higher education at vocational schools and worked at various vocational schools in Hesse. During this time he also wrote his dissertation at the Goethe University in Frankfurt on the subject of "Political Education Work with Girls Without Vocational Training" and obtained his doctorate. phil. In the academic field, he later also wrote a cumulative habilitation thesis in political science at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .

In 1976 he became a professor at the Fulda University of Applied Sciences a . a. appointed for “job-related education and counseling processes”. In 1980 Dehler was elected Vice-Rector there. After all, from 1982 to 1994 he was the rector of the Fulda University of Applied Sciences, elected by professors, staff and students. During this time he was u. a. Adviser to the Austrian federal government on questions of knowledge transfer and lecturer at the University of Innsbruck . At the same time he initiated the foundation “Regional Center for Science, Technology and Culture East Hesse, West Thuringia, Bavarian Rhön”, of which he was chairman of the board for many years. He also was involved in the UNESCO - Biosphere Reserve Rhoen, whose founding he 1991 speech was about "opportunities for natural and human-centered regional development". In the Rhön Biosphere Reserve, Dehler was also a member of the executive board of the Association for Nature and Habitat Rhön.

In 1994 Dehler worked for the Hessian state government and was appointed government representative for innovation and technology development. After 2000 he became, among other things, coordinator for regional innovation funding of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and later innovation officer of the state of Saxony-Anhalt. At the same time he was head of the SME and innovation policy department in the Ministry of Economics and Technology; later as ministerial director, head of the central department in the Ministry of Economy and Labor. Subsequently, “Representative for funding policy strategies and transnational cooperation” in the Ministry of Finance, based in Berlin. Dehler has been an independent political advisor in Berlin since 2009.

Joseph Dehler was also a founding member of the Solidarity Modern Institute and publishes not only scientific literature, but also short stories and political satires, for example in VAS-Verlag. There he is also co-editor of the series Science in Social Responsibility and Politics in Social and Ecological Responsibility .

Political activity

In 1998 Dehler was nominated by the SPD, Greens and CWE as candidate for mayor in the CDU stronghold of Fulda. He got 31% of the vote.

In December 2015, Dehler declared in a personal letter to the SPD chairman Sigmar Gabriel that he was leaving the SPD because he did not agree with its policy with regard to the Syrian civil war .
